What is Centre for Lifelong Learning?

The Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L) provides accessible learning opportunities to a broad range of people who wish to develop and upgrade their skills. With blended learning courses ranging from foundation to PhD level, we focus on the contribution of lifelong learning to the wider student learning experience. The blended learning programmes provide you with online digital resources and flexible tutorial sessions. When you complete a course, you will receive a signed Course certificate. Some C3L programmes entitle the graduates to join the annual UBD Convocation ceremony.


What is blended learning?

Blended learning involves imaginative integration of face-to-face with online learning experiences. At UBD blended learning design will be focused on enabling a ‘step change’ in flexibility with campus, the workplace and online being one. At UBD we will explore new and innovative ways to combine face-to-face and online experiences seamlessly and coherently, in a manner that responds to the workplace in enabling ‘Tomorrow’s Professionals’. There will be increased use of online learning, rich online educational resources relevant to student learning, blended with more traditional face-to-face delivery.

What are the entry requirements for your programmes?

University Bridging Programme: 120 points for two (2) passes of a minimum grade D

OR

120 points for three (3) passes at GCE ‘A’ Level or equivalent in subjects relevant to the intended Bachelor degree

How can I apply for a 14 Week Short Course?

How can I apply for the Unibridge Programme?

UniBridge applicants must apply only on the UBD Online Admission System (UBD OASYS) – https://apply.ubd.edu.bn/orbeon/uis-welcome/ Registration is open every January and August semester.

Can I apply if I don’t meet the minimum entry requirements for Master of Government?

We welcome applicants with a Bachelor’s Degree and at least five (5) years of working experience at an executive or management level. Alternatively, applicants who do not meet the requirements stated but may have other formal qualifications deemed equivalent or appropriate (e.g. formal training, relevant professional experience) may be considered and approved for admission on a case-by-case basis. If required, applicants may be called for an interview set by the Centre.

When do the programmes begin?

Our programmes are offered every August and January.


Will there be interviews conducted upon applying for the programme?

Interviews will only be conducted for the Master of Government and PhD in Lifelong Learning on a case-by-case basis


What is the language of instruction?

Courses and teaching materials will be delivered in English language except for Melayu Islam Beraja.


How flexible is the 14 Week Courses and Master of Government programme?

The programme adopt a blended learning approach (both offline and online) based on a negotiated learning programme structure. This new blended learning programme is a flexible, innovative, negotiated learning programme structure that takes on board the professional education needs of a broad spectrum of learners by providing the opportunity to select modules that best align with their educational needs and career objectives. The blended learning programme offers flexibility to negotiate your own learning but also gives you the opportunity to study at your own pace and in your own time.


What equipment will I need to access online lecture videos and teaching materials?

You may require an updated computer device (smart phone and tablet can also be used) with the latest operating system and web browser. An updated browser like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari or Internet Explorer A good broadband connection is a necessity. (If accessing over a mobile device or tablet, please ensure you are using a strong wifi connection and are not relying on the 3G or 4G data services).


How are the classes conducted? Will I need to attend classes in person?

Learning is conducted online and in-person. Students have access to digital resources such as video lectures, presentations and readings. However, students are required to meet your lecturer at least once a month either online or in person (depending on the module). Classes are held after working hours.


How many modules do I need to take in a semester?

University Bridging Programme: Students are required to take all three core modules and one optional module.

Bachelor of Science in Digital Economy: Students can take at least 1 module or maximum 4 modules in a semester. At the end of the programme, students will need to take all core modules, compulsory breadth and six option modules to graduate with the degree.

Master of Government: Students can take at least 1 module or maximum 4 modules in a semester. At the end of the programme, students will need to take all core modules and three option modules which equals to a total of 48 MCs.


What do I obtain after completing a Short Course programme?

After completing a Short Course, students who have successfully passed and completed all assessments and payment will obtain a certificate of completion.


How can I obtain a degree in BSc of Digital Economy?

Students will be awarded a Bachelor of Science in Digital Economy when they accumulate a minimum of 140 Modular Credits from a combination of foundation modules (as major core), compulsory breadths, specialisation modules (as major options) and discovery year as specified in the programme structure.


What is the maximum duration to complete the degree?

The maximum duration for students to complete the BSc in Digital Economy / Master of Government degree programme is 10 years.


Do I have exams for Master of Government at the end of the semester?

No, The Master of Government programme is assessed through online assessment. Students are required to complete an online e-Portfolio through the PebblePad platform. The assessment is made up of learning outcome workbooks compiled into a Portfolio or Collection.


Will I receive a timetable for my offline sessions?

Face-to-face classes will be determined by the lecturer and will depend on the availability of the other students.


Do you accept international students?

Yes. We accept applicants who are already residing in Brunei Darussalam.


Can I transfer credit for BSc degree programme?

Yes you may but based on approval and you need to submit an application form for credit transfer. If you have any questions email us at office.c3l@ubd.edu.bn.


Can I take more than 4 modules per semester?

You may seek advice by emailing to office.c3L@ubd.edu.bn.


When are the notifications of the acceptance?

Students will be notified via email regarding the start date and briefing in January or August depending on the registered intake.


What if I am not notified for the acceptance of my programme?

You can email to office.C3L@ubd.edu.bn to ask about the status of your application.

Is there any briefing for new students for C3L?

Yes, there will be briefing for new students and notified via email before the start of the semester.


I want to register, but didn’t apply during the application period. What should I do ?

Do we need to have student card? If yes, how do we apply for it?

You may use the student card for borrowing book at UBD Library. You are required to pay additional $20 and bring along the receipt to ICTC for student card process.


When is the deadline of payment for each semester?

The deadline of payment for each semester will be announced via email and on Canvas.


Are there any requirements for International Student to apply for the course?

Does UBD have safety guideline or response regarding to COVID-19?

Does C3L offer a Discovery Year Program?

Yes, we do offer a Discovery Year Program every semester. This is only applicable if you intend to complete and graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Digital Economy degree.


What are the eligibility requirements for SkillsPlus funding?

Eligible criteria to apply for SkillsPlus:

  • Applicants must be within the age range of 18 45 years old
  • The local employees must be under the direct employment of the nominating company and is contributing to the Employees Trust Fund (Tabung Amanah Pekerja) and the Supplementary Contributory Pension Scheme
  • The local employee must obtain official endorsement from their employers to enroll for training and apply for funding
  • The nominating/endorsing companies must be registered to ROCBN and JCB
  • The Business Reporting (BR) of the nominating/endorsing companies are updated upon the submission of application

How do I register if my company will sponsor my fees?

You may apply via our usual registration link (Apply.ubd.edu.bn) and provide a sponsorship letter at the begining of the semester from your company.


Is there accommodation or placement for international students?

Student can apply for accommodation to UBD Old Hostel & the Core Residential College.
