Centre for Lifelong Learning welcomes UniBridge students for January 2025 intake

Centre for Lifelong Learning  organised a briefing for new students under the UniBridge programme for the January 2025 intake. The main aim of the briefing was to provide students with essential information on their studies in the UniBridge programme. The session began with welcoming remarks by Dk Hjh Norakmarul Ihsan binti Pg Hj Sabtu, the coordinator of the UniBridge programme. She presented aspects such as programme structure, criteria for progression to undergraduate programmes, and an explanation on the use of Canvas, particularly focusing on the registration of modules and the integral role of the learning management system in students’ studies.

Powering Lifelong Learning for Inclusive Growth at THE Campus Live SE Asia 2024

AP Dr Jose Hernandez Santos – Director, Centre for Lifelong Learning attends THE Campus Live SE Asia 2024 in Kuala Lumpur. Representing UBD, Dr. Joey will be part of a panel discussion on ‘Powering Lifelong Learning for Inclusive Growth,’ exploring the transformative role of higher education in Southeast Asia.

With high unemployment rates an ongoing issue within Southeast Asia, higher education institutions have a critical role, as well as civic responsibility, to promote lifelong learning across all population demographics. This panel will discuss how higher education, along with government and industry, can help harness lifelong learning as a lever for socioeconomic transformation. They will share insights on the following:  

  • The challenges and opportunities of lifelong learning, exploring perspectives from higher education, industry and government 
  • How we can best engage the most marginalised communities and unemployed individuals in lifelong learning opportunities  
  • Examples of best practices for adopting a quadruple helix approach to lifelong learning

C3L collaboration with EVYD Technologies & UBD SDS

On 21st November 2024, C3L and School of Digital Science (SDS) UBD held a meeting to discuss micro-credential and collaboration opportunities with EVYD Technologies. We look forward to collaborating on developing opportunities to collaborate in the near future.

C3L hosts networking session with Ministry of Education Counselling Unit, teachers and counselors

On 20th November 2024, C3L held a Networking session with Ministry of Education Counselling Unit, school counselors, and guidance teachers to discuss micro-credentials and the recently introduced Counselling micro-credential

UBD C3L and InTELECT visit Smart Classroom and learning facilities in Malaysia

C3L and InTELECT conducted a working visit to benchmark leading universities in Malaysia to develop smart classroom initiatives and education technology at Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The aim of the visit to the smart classrooms at Universiti Teknologi Petronas,  Sunway University, Taylor University, and Monash University is to review and compare UBD’s current smart classroom setup with the established and high standard smart classroom setup in the respective institutions.  The goal is to identify areas for improvement in equipment, software, and practices. The visit included site tours and inspections conducted by the focal person at the higher education institutions. This visit aligns with the strategic initiatives of both UBD and C3L, aimed at enhancing educational technologies and methodologies to meet global standards.

UBD C3L Open Day & Lifelong Learning Festival 2024 

On 6th November, Universiti Brunei Darussalam celebrated the transformative power of education with its C3L Open Day and Lifelong Learning Festival!

The event highlights include the launching of the new C3L website and OpenLearning platform – hosting a number of micro-credentials including winners of the Best Micro-credential Award announced later during the closing ceremony. The full day programme included talks by exhibitors and key note speakers – Professor Karim Abdul Alias, Visiting Professor and Principal Fellow at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Professor Dr Orawan Kaweboonchoo from Mahidol University, Thailand and Professor Dr Anamai Thetkathuek from Burapha University, Thailand, Professor Yumiko Takagi from Kagawa University (Faculty of Education).

The exhibitors include representatives from Higher education learning and lifelong learning centres – including OpenLearning, Inspera, BILIF, Lifelong Learning Centre (L3C) MOE, Pusat Pekerjaan Brunei (PPB), Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Advancement (ILIA), Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) and AC-Ace Creative Training Services (ACTS)

Aligned with Brunei Vision 2035 & SDG 4, UBD is shaping a future of inclusive, lifelong learning.

Introduction to Occupational Hygiene and Occupational Toxicology PoLL Short Course

On 7th-8th November 2024, we hosted the C3L Popular Lifelong Learning (PoLL) Short Course: Introduction to Occupational Hygiene and Occupational Toxicology, a 16-hour in-person workshop designed for professionals in occupational health and safety.

Participants gained valuable knowledge and hands-on skills in occupational hygiene and toxicology, empowering them to apply these practices effectively in workplace environments.

The workshop targeted professionals eager to upskill or reskill in occupational health and safety research, particularly within the critical areas of occupational hygiene and toxicology. The event adeptly addressed the significant global challenges posed by workplace hazards, aiming to significantly reduce the annual toll of fatalities and diseases.

Centre for Lifelong Learning participates in Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) Day

Centre for Lifelong Learning participated in the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) Day held at the UBD Library on 24th October 2024. The guest of honour Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman highlighted that Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s (UBD) Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) Day aims to explore how MIB principles can align with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Centre for Lifelong Learning and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE) represented Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

C3L Lifelong Learning: Empowering Yourself in an Ever-changing World on RTB Rampai Pagi

Centre for Lifelong Learning Deputy Director – Dr Nik Ani Afiqah Binti Haji Mohammad Tuah joined Rampai Pagi, RTB on Wednesday 2nd October 2024 in a segment titled ‘Pembelajaran Sepanjang Hayat : Memperkasa Diri di Dunia Yang Sentiasa Berubah’. The segment was in conjunction with the celebration of 34th Brunei Teachers Day Celebration. The topics included the benefits of lifelong learning and Centre for Lifelong Learning, UBD.
