Universiti Brunei Darussalam co-hosts the 4th AUN-TEPL Symposium ” held on 28 and 29 May 2024 at Millennium Hilton Bangkok. Organised by Mahidol University and co-hosted by Singapore Management University, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and the University of the Philippines, this event provided rich insights and invaluable networking opportunities across the AUN+3 university members in sharing insights and developments of AUN-TEPL collaborative project, forging deeper inter-university collaborations within AUN+3, and deep-diving into the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for personalised learning.

AUN-TEPL is a collaborative initiative aimed at harnessing the potential of technology to innovate and personalise the learning experience across AUN member universities.

Within the theme of ‘AI for Personalised Learning’ –    Dr Hjh Syamimi binti Hj Md Ariff Lim (Deputy Director of Studies, Head of Teaching Learning Centre TLC) participated as a panelist  for the Panel discussion – ‘Empowering Educators: How AI can enhance Teaching and Learning’ to demonstrate UBD’s use of Generative AI tools to enhance student learning and skills for both lecturers and UBD administrative staff. This also includes showcasing UBD’s own development of a GenAI policy for students and staff. The symposium also featured workshops in promoting personalised learning, Dr. Anni @ Nik Ani Afiqah binti Hj Mohamad Tuah (Deputy Director, Centre for Lifelong Learning) ,   and Assoc Prof Dr Mohammad Tazli Azizan delivered a hybrid workshop titled ‘Generative AI and ChatGPT Mastery for Educators’. The workshop session highlighted the ways in which generative AI can be used for lesson content creation in text-to-text applications, tools and text-to-video technologies.

Centre For Lifelong Learning (C3L), Universiti Brunei Darussalam went live on Kristal FM with – DJ Nadzri and Pg Abdul Hafiz bin Pg Md Hassan to share details on the 2nd International Conference 2024 hosted by C3L and UBD.

The Centre for Lifelong Learning organised a seminar entitled ‘Malay Islamic Monarchy: Impacts On Policy Making’. Held on 5th May 2024, the seminar involved the Deputy High Commissioner of The Singapore High Commission to Brunei, officers from the Singapore High Commission as well as sixty public servant officers from the Civil Service College Singapore. The seminar was delivered by Dr Hj Md Rozan bin Dato Hj Md Yunos, Adjunct Professor at C3L and a retired government officer who have also held a number of key positions in different ministries throughout his career. The focus of the presentation was on the history and development of MIB, its implementation and the major role that it plays in the life of the people of Brunei. More importantly the seminar discussed how it impacted policy making in the government. Amongst the goals of the seminar was to present MIB from a more balanced perspective and exploring the nuances of the concept which could help inform the future leaders of the Singapore government in their policy making decisions with regards to their relationship with Brunei.

The Centre for Lifelong Learning recently visited the Defence Academy Headquarters, Royal Brunei Armed Forces, for a follow-up discussion on expanding micro-credentials and lifelong learning programmes. This visit builds on our ongoing collaboration, enhancing opportunities for growth and development in both academic and professional realms.

On 21^st and 22^nd February, UBD and C3L Lecturers in lifelong learning attended a two-day workshop conducted by OpenLearning on How to Build a Successful Micro-credential Course. The workshop equipped lecturers and staff with skills on how to plan, build and prepare a successful micro-credential course that fosters active participation from learners using tools within the OpenLearning platform.

The Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L) and Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) recently hosted a pivotal discussion with ITIS WESCOT Technology Sdn Bhd, a local company dedicated to advancing educational methodologies. Their collaboration took a significant step forward as they welcomed a trainer from Using Technology Better (UTB), Australia, underscoring their commitment to incorporating global expertise into local initiatives. One of the main focus was to enhance educators’ training, equipping them with cutting-edge technological tools and strategies. The conversation also explored the potential of offering bespoke workshops and creating micro-credential modules that validates skill acquisition. By synergizing their efforts, these entities are poised to revolutionize education, ensuring its adaptability and relevance in today’s rapidly evolving landscape.

Centre for Lifelong Learning  participated in the UBD Open Day 2024 held from 3-4th February 2024 at the UBD Library. This event saw academics and staff from all faculties be on hand to answer questions in relation to the programme and lifelong learning courses.

Centre for Lifelong Learning alongside other faculties from UBD were featured at the 9th Higher Education Expo held from 3-4th February 2024 from 9-5pm at Bridex, Jerudong . The education expo is a platform for the public and especially the student, to ask or seek information on the higher education pathways available at UBD Centre for Lifelong Learning – in particular the University Bridging Programme (UniBridge) and lifelong learning courses.

The morning session began with an opening ceremony officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman – Minister of Home Affairs. The Guest of honour visited the UBD booth and Director – AP Dr Jose Hernandez Santos demonstrated the programmes at C3L including University Bridging Programme and micro-credentials.

The Open Day held on 16th January 2024 serves as a platform for knowledge and collaboration. Participants will have the opportunity to engage and connect with representatives of respected companies across industries.
